The AJC is happy to be opening its doors for this year’s Religious Heritage Day activities. On September 11th and 12th, historian Fannie Dionne will take you through the process of canonisation, drawing from documents, objects, and photographs from the archives.
Registration is not required. There will be two sessions each day.
How to Become a Saint in Five Steps?
Saint Jean de Brébeuf is everywhere in Quebec: street names, schools, even a municipality is namned after him. But do you know the story behind the name? This workshop offers you a glimpse into the Archives of the Jesuits of Canada. Through various artifacts, including documents, relics, clothing, and books, you will discover how a 17th century French Jesuit became a saint in the 20th century—in just five simple… and simplified… steps.
- Dying in the odour of sanctity
- Building a cause
- Miracle and beatification
- Canonization and reclassification of relics
- Establishment of the cult
This workshop explores the history of Jesuit missionaries among the First Nations of what is now known as Canada, the institutional, political process of building a cause for sainthood, and the promotion of the veneration of saints—particularly, in the case of Jean de Brébeuf, at the Martyrs’ Shrine in Ontario.
